TRESPASERS & VANDALISM19 May 2023 (by Joanne Swift (j.swift)) |
We are writing to you as members of our school community to ask for your help. On two occasions this week, staff have come into school to witness mindless acts of vandalism on our school grounds. Intruders have destroyed our beautiful forest school area, pulling/kicking down the fence that guards the pond, pulling down tar polling shelters, damaging sheds and more. On a second night hooligans have come into our foundation playground, breaking things and throwing things around. This is devastating for our children who deserve safe places to play and to learn. Staff have worked hard to protect the children from the full extent of the damage but it is going to cost hundreds of pounds to put right.
We have CCTV on the premises and authorities are studying this to try to identify the culprits. We believe it is young teenagers who live locally and possibly some children from our school. On one image it looks like they wore balaclavas. Alarms have been triggered showing they have tried to gain access to school.
We would appreciate any information you can offer. We don't want mud slinging at 'usual suspects' but if you have seen suspicious behaviour or know anything concrete, please pass this on. Please speak to your own teenagers to see if they know anything and explain the seriousness of this, stressing that if they were ever involved in this type of behaviour there would be serious consequences.
We are worried that while we will spend time and money trying to return things to as they were, intruders could return and we would be back to square one.
We are both upset and angry. Why commit such a mindless attack on our school? This will take money from our budget which should have been spent on other resources for our children. It is our your children who will suffer.
