 It’s Just a Game

Many parents forget that it’s just a game. Yes, most want to win too, but what’s most important is that participation in sports builds character and teaches young athletes life lessons, such as good sportsmanship and teamwork. We remind players that you learn more with a loss. Not only do children learn what they need to do to get better and help their team get better, but they also know what it’s like to get back up and try again after they’ve been knocked down.
Unfortunately, many parents get ultra-competitive about their child’s sports and forget about its true purpose. This is primary school extra-curricular sport. Staff are giving up their own time to provide these opportunities to the children.

With this in mind, we feel the need to write this email as we have received complaints from some parents who have witnessed examples of this. If your child is chosen to represent the school, we have the following expectations of spectators;• No coaching your child during the game so they can focus on their teammates, their coach, and the game.• Cheer for all of the children positively even if you don’t perceive them to be following all the rules.• If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. This includes being rude and disrespectful to the coaches and officials.
If any spectators do not follow these expectations, they will not be allowed to watch future events and if this request is ignored, it could jeopardise your child’s future selection.

Thank you for your understanding.
