SNOW DAY??

8 January 2026 (by Joanne Swift (j.swift))

We are actively monitoring the severe weather forecast for the coming days, which indicates a strong possibility of snow. Our school intends to remain open if at all possible. However, the safety of our pupils and staff during travel is our top priority.
Should a decision be made to close the school, we will notify you immediately through the following official channels: The school app, MCAS, our official Facebook page and the Barnsley Council website  https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/services/schools-and-education/schools-currently-closed/
In the event of a school closure, children’s education will continue with engaging home learning activities.
To support literacy development, children are encouraged to select a favourite book and read it in an unusual location, capturing a picture if possible. Following this, they are asked to complete a book review, articulating to their teacher why they love the book through a piece of writing tailored to their individual ability level. As an alternative literacy task, pupils may choose to compose a poem with a winter or snow theme.
For children who wish to engage creatively, they can produce a piece of artwork to complement their literacy work, such as designing a new book cover for their chosen book or illustrating a snowy landscape.
Mathematics work is also essential. This should simply be a recap of foundation skills such as times tables practice, telling the time, counting money, and calculating change.
Thank you for your support.
